CAPIO facilitated
the release of a twenty three year old man from prison. On the 11th
of March, a high court in Enugu State struck out the charge against a certain
Chigozie Nomeh on the grounds of ‘lack of diligent prosecution’.
Chigozie had
been arrested and detained in 2011. The charge for which he was detained was
assaulting a 65 year old woman, a charge to which he pleaded not guilty. While the complainant never
appeared in court, the prosecutor was present in one of the five hearing that
spanned a period between 4th of July, 2013 and 11th of
March, 2014. Barr. Gregory Obasohan, a CAPIO Legal Officer who represented the accused commented that
justice has finally been served.
